Mapping the protests in Iran

The mobile phone footage showing the death of the young woman Neda Soltani has become the overriding image of the protests in Iran. With much of the world's media refused access to report the post-election demonstrations first-hand, we're relying hugely on user generated content (UGC) to see what's happening.

There's too much material to show the full story in any TV news bulletin or package, but that's not the case on the web. The BBC Online Specials Team has put together a map of Tehran, plotting where and when the images and videos were taken. It's not the first time this has been done - see the LA Crime Times homicide map and the Minneapolis bridge collapse - but it's still a really effective way of telling the story.
