Welcome ...

is director of OffspinMedia and a former Today editor

... to the new BBC College of Journalism website.

You'll notice that we've moved from our old site on Gateway to bbc.co.uk - that's to get ready to launch the site publicly both in the UK and, under subscription, globally.

If you're familiar with our intranet site, you'll notice a lot of changes to the way we've organised our online learning material, though almost all of the content has been transferred from the old site to this new one.

We've also added lots of new content - guides to the basics of multimedia journalism, for example, plus more virtual newsroom scenarios for you to test your skills in our Journalism Tutor and quizzes.

One of the features of this new site is its 'intelligent' navigation. Whenever you're watching a video or reading the text or testing yourself in a quiz or scenario, the panel on the right-hand side of each page will offer you similar learning material that might interest you or take you further into a topic.

We've kept to one of the principles that was very important on the Gateway site: journalists learn best from each other and especially well from people they respect. All the online tutors on the new site are experts in their field with years of experience behind them.

Debate and discussion is very important, too. You don't have to be a journalist for very long to learn that there's rarely only one way of doing things. And, while we have tips and guides on this site from the best in their field, that doesn't mean it's the last word - you might have a way that works well for you. Share it - we'll make that easy to do.

The best way of using the new site is to plunge in. Start clicking around, exploring the things that look interesting or are relevant to the job you do ... or want to do next.

And we need your feedback. We've done a lot of user testing and have listened to feedback on the intranet site - but we want more. Suggestions of new content, things that work for you and things that don't.

So please add your comments to this post to let us know what you think.

Blog comments will be available here in future. Find out more.
