A discussion about journalism on BBC Radio 3?? Has the world gone completely mad?

If you're not a regular of BBC Radio 3 you may be surprised to learn that it has a daily evening discussion programme called Night Waves.

Thursday night's instalment featured the BBC News veteran John Simpson and Chicago Tribune editor Jack Fuller in a discussion about how journalism has changed during their careers.

For those who keep up with the ongoing discussion about whether journalism has a future or not, Simpson and Fuller's exchange is hardly going to be breaking news.

Even so, their appearance on the likes of Night Waves transforms what formerly seemed like an industry-only discussion into something for the relative mainstream.

It's official. The cat's out of the bag. There's no excuse now.
