Giving Feedback

Simon Ford

Giving and receiving feedback is an important part of every journalist's job. The BBC College of Journalism's Fiona Anderson coaches managers and journalists in how to do it effectively.

From an editor or producer's point of view, feedback is an important tool to keep your output on track; to make sure it keeps delivering and fulfilling your audience's needs.

It's also the best way of helping your reporters to understand what's required of them and improving their performance.

From the reporter's point of view - especially one working for more than one news organisation - it's a vital way of understanding the BBC; its requirements, values and goals.

Feedback should be part of your role and your relationship with everyone who works on your output. You should expect to give it and they should expect to receive it.

You can learn more about giving and receiving feedback from the BBC College of Journalism website. The site is free to licence fee payers within the United Kingdom but you will be charged to access most of the content if you are outside the UK.

Blog comments will be available here in future. Find out more.
