The Nick Clarke Award is an annual prize for “the best broadcast interview of the year”, in memory of the BBC presenter (above) who died in 2006.

This year’s shortlist has been published, and the winner will be announced on October 13 at the Times Cheltenham Literature Festival. The prize is a dozen bottles of good claret – which the organisers are confident that “Nick himself would have enjoyed”.

Shortlist (from the Award website):

Jennifer Tracey, co-presenter on BBC Radio 4’s iPM, interviewed Consultant Lydia Guthrie about her experiences working directly with sex offenders.

Kirsty Young, presenter of BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs, interviewed Aung San Suu Kyi, Leader of Burma’s opposition party. The programme follows its enduring format with Aung San Suu Kyi choosing the items she would want to have with her on the mythical desert island.

Krishnan Guru-Murthy, one of the main presenters of Channel 4 News, interviewed American film director Quentin Tarantino, who refuses to discuss any link between movie violence and real life violence in relation to his latest film Django Unchained.

Iain Lee is BBC Three Counties Radio’s breakfast presenter. His interrogation of Bedford Hospital paediatric unit’s boss uncovered the suspension of a senior consultant and hinted at what eventually became the closure of children’s A&E services.

Alison Holt, Social Affairs correspondent for BBC News, interviewed one of the victims of a gang of men who groomed, raped and trafficked girls in Oxford. The subject became known as “Girl 3″ during the trial.

Victoria Derbyshire is a presenter on BBC Radio 5 Live. “Rachel” the alcoholic and former doctor first called Victoria Derbyshire’s programme two years ago to tell her story. In March 2013 Victoria went to spend a day with her – meeting her friends, her family and dropping into a day centre for recovering addicts.
