The Italian and Irish governments have just unveiled austerity budgets, US Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner is touring European capitals to discuss the crisis, and the credit-worthiness of the leading countries in the eurozone has been questioned.
As the French and German leaders put the finishing touches to their plans for reform of the eurozone ahead of another crucial EU summit on Friday, the BBC's Economics Editor, Stephanie Flanders and Business Correspondent, Jonty Bloom examine some of the key issues around the crisis.
