My crazy life
Hi, I’m Chuckie and I’m a resident DJ on BBC Radio 1’s In New DJs We Trust. My radio shows are always inspired by whatever happened on tour. And I can tell you, a lot happens on tour!
In between my monthly residency on In New DJs We Trust I try to keep up with my tour schedule… The last two years have been very hectic for me!
This last month I did the infamous Coachella Festival in Palm Springs… But I missed my flight so my only option was a private jet. Otherwise my agent would kick my @#$#%! So I had to take a picture from the sky of Coachella :

After that I went to Los Angeles to do a last minute studio session with Three 6 Mafia:

ThenI went straight to Australia for the Creamfields Tour with Deadmau5, Skrillex, Martin Solveig and more! I must say that I love the Ozzies!!!! They keep thair hands up all night!

It was a really fun tour for me, going to Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Canberra and Adelaide. But you need to have a good rest and get your vitamin level up:

I had a few shots there. But don't worry... it’s just lemonade! LOL!

The one thing I like about touring is meeting all the great artists on tour like this legend, Derrick May! He has the funniest stories!

In between the gigs i like to go to the studio. I did a studio session with TV Rock in Austalia:

But at the parties we go crazy! Here’s Deadmau5 hanging on a chandelier!

What a fun month it's been!!! If you want to hear more about Australia and some of the tunes that worked for me out there, have a listen to my In New DJs We Trust Show this week!
Ok, time now for some more music!!!

See ya next month...
Chuckie.

Rob Da Bank at Radio 1's Big Weekend in Carlisle

I've made it am wearing shorts! Yes I’m feeling brave- not only that it won't rain but also exposing my white pins to the hordes of 1 Big Weekenders. I was doing my alternative soundtrack to King Kong in Manchester last night which is a whole other story so I was feeling a bit knocked off after a long night but as soon as I got here and felt the vibes they shook me wide awake and ready to rave.

Seth Troxler's Essential Mix

With this in mind this mix was done using just a pair of turntables, a mixer and a copy of Traktor hooked up to a Native Instruments X1 effects controller, though no beat-gridding or auto-syncing was used. The funny thing was, as I've just moved to London and so all of my stuff is either in storage or in transit, I found it surprisingly hard to find someone with a set of decks on which to do the mix. Luckily, in the end my good friend Jamie Jones came to the rescue and so this mix was done in one take on the decks set up in his living room. I'd like to thank Jamie and all of his housemates for putting up with me playing loud techno in their front room while some of them were just waking up after a particularly heavy weekend! I hope you enjoy the mix, let me know what you think to it here.

Ms Dynamite's Neva Soft
Hello Dance Bloggers. For those who don't know, I'm MistaJam - Radio 1Xtra and Radio 1's Dubstep and Bass music go to guy! They've finally given me a full login to the Dance blog so expect some irregular ramblings from me about things that are going off in my world.
It's been a while since we've had a new Ms Dynamite record. Although you wouldn't guess as she's been pretty much everywhere over the past few years by working with and featuring on tracks with pretty much the who's who of the modern UK Bass music scene. Fitting time in to work with The Nextmen & Groove Armada's Andy Cato ('Lions Den'), DJ Zinc ('Wile Out'), Geeneus ('Get Low'), Redlight ('What You Talking About'), Magnetic Man ('Fire'), our very own Toddla T ('Want U Now'), old sparring partner Sticky ('Bad Gyal') and of course Katy B on the #4 charting UK funky smash 'Lights On'; it's hard to believe that the last time we got a full Ms Dynamite solo release was in 2005!
Working with certified hitmaker Labrinth - who she now shares management with - she's more than delivered with the record that is my Jam Hot Record of the Week this week and was premiered on my Monday night BBC Radio 1Xtra show: 'Neva Soft'. Starting with a old skool reggae-influenced intro (even though it sounds like it, it isn't a sample - testament to Lab's production skill), the track breaks down into a modern Dancehall inspired analogue bass fest that's not a million miles away from the classic Sleng Teng riddim or anything you may have heard on the Major Lazer album. Following the response from the 1Xtra audience (and the amount of times I've been listening to it in the car!) I personally think it could & should be massive this summer and is definitely the return to form I've been waiting for.
If you missed the premiere, you can catch it along with an interview with her thanks to the joys of the BBC iPlayer here - alternatively, I'll also be spinning it on my 1Xtra show tonight at 7.40pm, on my Saturday night Radio 1Xtra & Radio 1 show and as Annie Mac is the only other DJ with a copy of the record, I'm pretty sure she will be giving the record it's Radio 1 premiere on Friday. Once you've heard it, let us know your thoughts!
Snap, Crackle, Drop #2
So what I hear you ask, could a house hold cleaning device have to do with rave music?
Well...."VVVvvvvvvvv"... Any closer? Let me explain. Way back when, Roland created a synth that was adopted heavily by the rave scene. Think of the riff on Prodigy - Charley, then you may see why this sound had been affectionately dubbed the Hoover!
Which brings us on to this weeks selection for "Snap Crackle Drop". Each killer music movement has to start with one seminal track, and with the Hoover, after many discussions with fellow rave music enthusiasts we agree this was the first track to be written specifically around this sound, which spurned a whole revolution in rave!!
Get your hoovers fired up and prepare for the fasted house cleaning ever, it's time for Second Phase - Mentasm.
