Ms Dynamite's Neva Soft
Hello Dance Bloggers. For those who don't know, I'm MistaJam - Radio 1Xtra and Radio 1's Dubstep and Bass music go to guy! They've finally given me a full login to the Dance blog so expect some irregular ramblings from me about things that are going off in my world.
It's been a while since we've had a new Ms Dynamite record. Although you wouldn't guess as she's been pretty much everywhere over the past few years by working with and featuring on tracks with pretty much the who's who of the modern UK Bass music scene. Fitting time in to work with The Nextmen & Groove Armada's Andy Cato ('Lions Den'), DJ Zinc ('Wile Out'), Geeneus ('Get Low'), Redlight ('What You Talking About'), Magnetic Man ('Fire'), our very own Toddla T ('Want U Now'), old sparring partner Sticky ('Bad Gyal') and of course Katy B on the #4 charting UK funky smash 'Lights On'; it's hard to believe that the last time we got a full Ms Dynamite solo release was in 2005!
Working with certified hitmaker Labrinth - who she now shares management with - she's more than delivered with the record that is my Jam Hot Record of the Week this week and was premiered on my Monday night BBC Radio 1Xtra show: 'Neva Soft'. Starting with a old skool reggae-influenced intro (even though it sounds like it, it isn't a sample - testament to Lab's production skill), the track breaks down into a modern Dancehall inspired analogue bass fest that's not a million miles away from the classic Sleng Teng riddim or anything you may have heard on the Major Lazer album. Following the response from the 1Xtra audience (and the amount of times I've been listening to it in the car!) I personally think it could & should be massive this summer and is definitely the return to form I've been waiting for.
If you missed the premiere, you can catch it along with an interview with her thanks to the joys of the BBC iPlayer here - alternatively, I'll also be spinning it on my 1Xtra show tonight at 7.40pm, on my Saturday night Radio 1Xtra & Radio 1 show and as Annie Mac is the only other DJ with a copy of the record, I'm pretty sure she will be giving the record it's Radio 1 premiere on Friday. Once you've heard it, let us know your thoughts!
