JAGGAT & KEMP HAVE NINA
In his latest video message Lloyd (Kemp's assistant) has been divulging details about Nina's perilous situation. Now under the watchful eye of Professor Jaggat, Nina is about to undergo a series of tests at their facility... a building which still remains surrounded in mystery since the death of Galvin three weeks ago.
This week it was recently revealed that Professor Jaggat is in fact Lucy from the hospital... but what does this mean for Mitchell? CenSSA certainly seem to be onto him, with Lloyd's listening device giving them an insight into the re-opening of the funeral parlour. But what next?
To see Lloyd's full update and the other evidence he's been amassing visit his website and don't miss his YouTube Channel where he regularly interacts with viewers of his videos.

Here's my final thought on why Being Human has gone downhill...
TV shows are not like movies... the plot is not the most important thing. TV's appeal.. the number one selling point.. is the tone. TV Shows sell themselves by having a certain vibe that the viewers like.. A setting, a style, a pace, a feeling, a mood.. And however much the plot develops and the characters change... a successful TV show is CONSISTENT IN TONE.
Look at some of the shows that are critically acclaimed at the moment (examples that I have watched)... Mad Men, True Blood, Dexter... these all have a very strong style and tone.. Mad Men has that slick, chic, stylish veneer, beneath which the plot bubbles slowly.. True Blood has that trashy southern gothic vibe.. Dexter has its morbid humour and bloody excess mixed with a fun, fast-paced mystery plot. These shows work because their worlds are convincing.. the tone stays the same.
Even shows that aren't that great can run a long time if they keep offering the same thing... Desperate Housewives, Supernatural, 24...
Shows that move the goalposts too far.. turn their worlds upside down BY GETTING TOO AMBITIOUS WITH THE PLOT or shift too far in tone.. always end up accused of 'jumping the shark'... Weeds, Scrubs, House, Heroes.
It's nice that you wanted to go 'epic'... but I think you kind of tore the show apart in the process... TV needs baby steps.. I think you should've at least tried to get through the second series with a bit of consistency before you let it get this crazy..
Im actually looking forward to the American version now.. because if they get it right on take-off... they might be able to fly it steady for longer..
Hey, The Office turned out pretty good over there.. and look how many seasons that's run for.
I wonder why...

It got to a degree in our BH world where Lost type bizarre theories took off. But that was us, not the show.
The base of the show may have lost a little pace but I think it was needed. I don't think it's going to go full speed into jump shark oblivion. I think it's raised a level that it wanted to get at originally. I think ep 3 is pretty damn perfect.

I totally think you have the right to opinion but the phrasing of this seems a tad pretentious. Yes Being Human has shifted its focus in terms of tone but I think tv shows work best when they're multi-tonal. One of the great things about this episode was the 'Real Hustle' scene, where the behaviour from darker scenes was transferred into a banal setting. This is what made it brilliant, in lightening the darkness of later scenes and also seeming more fluid in shifts between humour and gravity! And yeah, I also totally adore Supernatural! Its awesome and very probably has the funniest concept episodes of any tv series.

I can't remember another show where I wait with such anticipation for the following week's episode. True Blood may have kept a more consistent tone throughout but I only carried on watching it to discover the killer in series 1..not even sure I'm interested in watching the second series of it.
We all knew that BH2 was going to be darker and Toby was clear that he wanted to make significant changes to the previous series. I don't think the pace has dropped..if anything...especially eps 3...it's increased. There are more complicated and interwoven storylines going on in this series rather more than in series 1 and there's no doubt that there is less of a feel of the main characters being together and operating as a threesome/foursome..but...I think it will build to them supporting each other again in spectacular fashion.
What I love about this series is the pace; the twists and turns in the storylines; the 'taking nothing for granted' aspect as a viewer; the acting of all concerned; the interplay between drama and comedy;
the fact that some humans can be even more 'monstrous' than some of the supernaturals; and...of course...the gorgeous Aidan Turner!

I think Bex meant that the pace had raced ahead. And I agree and disagree with that. I felt the pace was too slow to start with in series 2 but I knew it was setting everything up ready for ep 3. Episode 3 more than met my expectations. I felt that it was perfect. If you want a set character pace then there are other shows for that. This show does not sit still.
I'm really intrigued with the Mitch/Ivan/Daisy power struggle. I'm hedging my bets on Daisy to rule. But Ivan knows better and might sort her out.

All ‘True Blood’ had to offer was ‘look another story about vampires we didn’t bother with a descent plot but watch it anyway because it has vampires in it.’ Things like ‘Heroes’ are now rubbish because they stayed exactly the same.
The thing that makes a show good, over a long period of time, is the ability to develop and change but at the same time keep the core idea the same. ‘Doctor Who’ is an example of this. It has kept the same main idea ‘an alien travels time and space and explores the universe.’ However it has also developed over time the characters have evolved, the storeys range from the evil of humans to love storeys. The same is true of BH.
I know many people like programmes that NEVER change but I don’t. I can only ever stand so much of the same thing in a program before it gets really boring. The exception to this rule is show all about comedy. Comedy shows can stay the same and still be funny.

That's fine by me. I thought the third episode had more light relief in it than the first too and that was welcome after the sturm und drang of the first two. To me the reduction in humour seems like a conscious choice.
I still think the series is extremely strong though. I don't see a decline in quality of the acting or the scripts. I thought the script for Episode Three was pretty bloomin' good. The phone conversation between George and Nina was extremely upsetting and brought me to tears. Utterly devastating and that's down to script plus actors working at their best. The execution of Cara was deeply shocking too. Mitchell's dilemma was also clearly outlined from the get go and the third episode really develops that to the point where I wonder what the hell he's done. I like that the characters are surprising me with their decisions.
I also assume it really is the intention of the second series to really put our three characters through the wringer this time to the point where we are left questioning why we liked them in the first place. For me, that's a good thing. The only disappointment will lie in whether the series finale will simply end up putting them back into the same position they were in at the start of the series, as if the events of eight episodes hasn't affected them and their relationships at all. I hope they don't do that because good characters really do have to go through changes. And often we don't all like what we see. For example, Mitchell was rather cruel to George and Annie was equally insensitive towards him too in this week's episode.
I loved True Blood's first series but I found the second series very uneven indeed. Much of what made the first series intriguing and funny went awry. It ended up being rather stupid and silly, for me. This second series of BH has built on the first and is taking us to some very dark places indeed with some complex moral and philosophical questions. For some, that may not be the BH they want to see. I don't know if an American version is the solution for those who don't particularly like what's happened to the UK version.
I personally can't wait to see where this series is taking us.
Can I also put a quick shout out for Simon Guerrier's BH novel 'The Road' - really good - which I've just finished and for Mark Michalowski's sequel 'Chasers' which is equally superb (about half way through that). I've still got the third book waiting in the wings too. I'll be reviewing those on my own blog. Apologies for the plug!

What we're left with is a rather ordinary supernatural drama, albeit one that's brilliantly executed. It takes itself too seriously; the vampire storyline is an example of that. I miss Herrick with his deadpan humour. I miss the lovably idiotic Seth. They were people first, vampires second. I don't see that with the new bunch.
Now, being a horror/drama fan, I actually love the new season, but it's a completely different beast from the previous one. I can absolutely understand why someone who is not a fan of the genre might be disappointed.

unlikely Bexter I'm a huge fan of plots. I've been having this conversation about the "plot vs tone dilemma" yesterday evening on twitter and I state that a good plot doesn't need anything elso to be consistent and entertaining.
I tried to watch True Blood but I couldn't go further than the 5th episode, it was beacause of too much pointless sex, too slow pace, boring, dull.. it made even the search for the murderer not interesting. As a matter of fact, I didn't lasted long enough to discover who that was.
I totally agree with Rebecca though, when a show doesn't change at all, it becomes dull and repetitive. Changes need to be introduced carefully and wisely. I agree that we all feel nostalgic about the witty and light atmosphear of season 1, but things have changed somehow. Important thing is that tose changes are made thoughfully and have to come to a result somehow, not just changes for the sake of themselves, for the sake of twisting and turning.
That said, I love this show. I love the whole concept behind this, it's very original and I wouldn't wish to see it transformed into some True Blood thing. That's why I am little scared by te American version. One of the reasons I like it, it's because of its Britishness! =)

I loved series 1 and always will - I thought the balance of drama, genre-specific stuff and humour was perfect and didn't want it to ever change. But shows that don't ever change stagnate and become repetitive, I'm glad that won't be happening here! The first series was so well-received there's no need to play it safe with the plot anymore, and I for one say bring it on!
Also for the record, I don't get where all the True Blood comparisons are coming from, not just here but everywhere these two shows are being constantly compared. Honestly other than the fact that they both have vampires the shows could not be more different in tone etc, True Blood is funny at times and it's good, but it's full of way too much over-the-top comedy and too many gratuitous sex scenes - I like it but just can't take it seriously at all. Being Human is so much darker and more involved with the plot and it always has been, even in series 1 when there were more light-hearted scenes.
The only thing I am missing in series 2 is having more of those scenes with the full cast all together because they are just such a great cast and it works so well, I think that's what makes this show really special. Those scenes are always brilliant and have that perfect balance of being hilarious and moving the plot along, of being so funny and so sad all at the same time, which is something not many writers or actors can achieve. But for what it's worth I'm loving seeing another side to all the characters we've come to love, and I think the suspense in series 3 is delicious!

For me, the essence of a good TV series is in strong characters and situations, good writing and pace, and the desire to see more. Striking sets/locations, costumes and soundtrack add to this, and attractive leads are certainly a bonus.
I feel that, so far, BH2 complies with this. I still care about the characters and what may befall them. I flinch at the gore and laugh out loud (every time) at the comic scenes.
Repeat watching enhances rather than diminishes each episode.
Yes, BH2 differs from BH1 and it may not be perfect but, for me, its faults are few and minor.
Oh, and Lloyd, you need to get out more.

For a start, the suggestion that the higest-proffiting films have good plotlines is nonsense. And besides, whilst there is a need for some continuity, a series needs to evolve and change with time, otherwise it just gets formulaic and trashy. Take things like '6 Feet Under' (a shame for those who haven't seen it, but oh well; it's sheer genius) for example; its salvation is in the fact that the characters and tone evolve and mature over time. People and life aren't so black and white, everything's always changing all the time, and a really good show reflects that. The way I see it, if BH (or any show for that matter) were to continue with exactly the same style and tone indeffinately, then it would lose its point and turn into another boring run-of-the-mill nonsense. I can say, with absolute assurance, that the only reason that I continue to watch BH S2 is that it HAS changed, and for it to do anything else would be simply childish.

It'll be good to have another ghost turn up, we've had vampires, (lots of them) and we have two regualr characters who are werewolves, time to even up the balance. :D
Re: the change in tone: I think its great and although I liked the lighter (slighty) series 1 we are moving along with the characters and without Herrick there life is even harder for Mitchell. Killing him was no quick fix. Life was easier wit him alive (at least their lives before he started directly threatening them)
I love that its so true, to draw from real life killing a dictator leaves behind a lot of mess for someone to clean up. In Being Human that person is Mitchell, luckily he's got his mop and bucket ready ...

I think it shows a lot Mitchell's experience of life, having lived for over 100 years, he must have been through what George is going through and he wants to help him, like Nina did on the phone, to stop pitying himself for his situation and to move on and make the best of it.
I think Mitchell is great in that scene, he doesn't come accross as angry at George or insensitive as George thinks, he's being a good friend, in contrast to last time he joined the other vampires and ended up shouting and pointing a kitchen knife towards the others. So maybe a lesson has been learned there, he has to be there for them at the house and not abandon them for his work with the vampire community.

Celticgrace (84)- cant say that scene stuck out to me either and I dont think mitchell was being mean or insesitive to george- actually i think it was what george needed- i'm sorry but it seems like through the past three episodes george has been the most selfpittying character even though the others have problems just as big as his. If george didn't stop feeling sorry for himself then he would have really started to become irritating.

Anyway, there seems to be alot of discussion on S2 compared with S1. Well everyone's opinion is valid...so here is mine for what it's worth...we were told all along that it would be much darker and somehow bigger...well they weren't wrong. I think we got used to our little threesome who came into contact with others who came and went but our three always remained a tight unit and looked out for each other. Now there are alot more characters playing bigger parts in our three's lifes(?) and M. G and A all seem wrapped up in their own problems...especially M.
The series is much much darker...but having said that..Mitchell going into melt-down cos The Real Hustle wasn't on and Annie sticking her head under George's duvet to have a heart to heart with him were as funny as anything I saw in S1.
George is a bit of a winge at the moment but in S1...for five eps he was a complete wuss....but who saved the day in the end?
Mitchell knows he is letting G and A down at the moment...but he is just trying to do his best.
I don't think we can make too many comparisons cos I feel the two series are different animals...I have faith in Uncle Tobes and I know you all do too. And have faith in his ability to surprise us...Lucy is The Prof??....Mitchell carrying out his threat against Cara?
Well sorry for the ramble....I'm turning into eagle...Hehe
