Peaks - Reverie
Monday 4th April 2016
They Say: “I've been writing songs in my bedroom for years, but studying composition at university really broadened the music I listen to. ‘Reverie’ for me is the first time that I feel I've consolidated my position somewhere between my songwriting and my contemporary composition. All the sounds in the track (except the bass and vocals) are made up with samples of different piano techniques which I've been exploring a lot during my time at university. I really love what artists like James Blake and FKA Twigs are doing with that electronic/experimental vibe, and ‘Reverie’ does something along those lines, with relatively un-manipulated acoustic sounds.”
We Say: “It is possible, on occasion to get the best of both worlds - and Peaks has managed just that. The production is adventurous - sounding pointed and industrial. Yet the vocal is – or at least starts – soft and sweet. It’s an interesting match that works a treat and makes 'Reverie' thoroughly engaging throughout.”
