Live events connect us, we feel and experience the world in a different way and as well as all that really nice stuff, the industry employs A LOT of people.
Right now in all this uncertainty, the Northern Irish live events industry needs help to support its workers and prevent potential collapse. In Northern Ireland, 7,500 jobs could be at risk. Not only could it be bad for mental health, but even the loss of one skilled worker is a big loss to any local economy.
The #WeMakeEventsNI team - which is made up of sound engineers, lighting designers, tour caterers, truck drivers, tour managers, riggers, backline techs, video directors and festival promoters – are raising awareness about the value of the touring, festival and theatrical events industries.
#WeMakeEventsNI has been sharing stories from artists and workers, who haven’t been allowed to work since March and have no set date for events to return, in order to show the impact the current situation is having. The campaign has been backed by local artists, including comedian Colin Geddis and Snow Patrol’s Gary Lightbody.
The WeMakeEventsNI campaign is building towards a global day of awareness on Wednesday 30th September, which will see the Northern Ireland events industry join a worldwide call for support.
