Hunkpapa - Lost In The Wild
Thursday 5th January, 2017
They say: “One of the happiest moments of my childhood was when I discovered a forest near my house. I was about 10 and had my dog with me. We often went 'exploring', but this time we had stumbled into what I thought to be the coolest place on earth.
The freedom I felt there was immense, my imagination went into overdrive and it was brilliant.
Recently, I came home from a tiresome day of being a terrible waiter. All of a sudden I remembered that day. I had this thought and realised true happiness comes in the simplest of forms, as it did for me back then. I was outrightly happy in that forest with my dog.
So I picked up the guitar and for a moment delved back into my childhood imagination and wrote Lost In The Wild.
"Fighting off the wolves with our hands and a Swiss knife" is definitely something I would have pretended I was doing at 10 years!
My Friend Johno Whittington of Brør injected some testosterone into the track with his beastly drumming. (I like to pretend that's all he recorded, but he recorded pretty much everything else too).
The track was recorded with Chris Ryan at Start Together Studios. We have since recorded another track with Chris (hopefully you will hear it soon!) - I love his attitude and willingness to get slightly weird, and I don't think he minds my somewhat dysfunctional approach to music..."
We say: “With pounding drums and primal lyrics, Lost In The Wild is a heartfelt ode to the forest – a call to arms for a return to nature.
Capped off with a scorching and untamed guitar solo, the track is much like a retreat to the woods, whisking the listener to somewhere elemental and enthralling.”
Hunkpapa is the brainchild of Armagh's Weston Clendinning. Keep an eye on their Facebook page for gig news.
