Arborist - A Man Of My Age

Monday 20th June 2016

They say: “I originally recorded a home demo of A Man of My Age which was close to 10 minutes long, with as many verses. The original idea was something like Changing of the Guards by Dylan; multiple driving verses suffixed with a rich instrumental part.

Luke, the violinist, adeptly provided the latter and Richard gave it a slight REM - Electrolite feel on piano. It sat like this for about 6 months before we pieced it together as a band, cut a few verses and decided to record it in Start Together Studios one Sunday in mid-May 2016.

Happy as we were with it, only when Jonny Ash added his guitar part at around midnight did it really all come together. Though not your quintessential single at 6m40s we thought the length was important in supplementing the theme of repetitiveness, the day-to-day.”

We say: "There's always been something of the young fogey about Mark McCambridge. He seems to enjoy the deadpan, the dowdy and the quietly gracious things in life. Here's another lilting installment. He's going gently, but his heart still blazes."

Arborist are a Belfast-based band with musician Mark McCambridge at the centre. 'A Man Of My Age' is their new single, available from July 1st, 2016.
