For this week's 'The Making Of…' we chat to long-haired legend Cormac Neeson, singer with Co. Down rock behemoths The Answer. Check out the band's new single 'Rise', released this week, for a little orchestral goodness.

The Answer play a special show at The Empire tomorrow night (Thursday).

The first record I bought was “Slippery When Wet” by Bon Jovi. You may laugh, but the riff that opens this album planted some distinctly rock'n'roll seeds that have held me in good stead to this day!

The last record I bought was “Only Revolutions” by Biffy Clyro. I’m ashamed to say I only got round to picking it up recently but what an album! From the opening tune “The Captain” onwards - you just know these boys mean business and I totally get why they're so massive these days. They deserve it.

The one gig that made me want to be in a band

Risque Blues playing a gig rig in a Newcastle car park when I was about 12. They got paid in pint bottles of lager and I remember thinking...what a great way to make a living.

The one musician that inspired me to start performing was Paul Rodgers. That guy just had his s**t together.

Thelast gig The Answer watched together was Gaslight Anthem at Nova Rock festival in Austria. Good band...the Boss meets Pearl Jam. The last album we listened to together was The Black Keys - “El Camino”. I wouldn’t say we’re collectively into it. In fact when there’s whiskey involved that band spark some heated debate. I say fair play to them. As for someone we all agree on and consistantly bond over - AC/DC of course!

One local act we'd happily share a stage with every night would be Swanee River. Great band and all headers!

The first cover version The Answer tried was “Alright Now” by Free. It sounded good as well. The last cover version we did was “Livin’ For The City” by Stevie Wonder. There’s a great live recording of us doing that one that I’m sure will surface some day.

Finally, an act we're into that may surprise some people? I'm actually a big Eels fan. I know they’re a bit left of centre to what we do but a great band is a great band!

The Answer play 'Gifted Live' at The Empire tomorrow night, performing their album 'Rise' in its entirety. Also on the bill - David KittKopek and The Riptide Movement.
