Rihanna at Radio 1's big Weekend, Bangor, Wales

With the bizarre rumours that Rihanna is spending a little time in Bangor this week (apparently shooting a music video), we got to thinking about times when we've spotted popstars and musicians in strange places. Ever spotted a superstar doing something very mundane? Maybe you've caught someone in a local band do something very un-rock n' roll - we want to know!

Mark Morris at a Wedding

Rigsy - ATL Presenter

Circa 2003, I was DJing at a wedding in Bangor. I was fascinated by a guy dancing with a great deal of enthusiasm to Beyonce's 'Crazy in Love', because he looked so ridiculously like the lead singer of Britop legends The Bluetones. He came over and asked for a little Jackson 5, so I took the opportunity to say to him "you look the absolute spit of the lead singer of a band called The Bluetones". He smiled, and said "oh really, where they any good?". I replied "Yes, back in the day I absolutely loved them, 'If' is one of my favourite songs ever. Think they're still touring now, but I doubt anyone really cares, ha ha". I then realized it was indeed Mark Morris, lead singer of the Bluetones. Awkward.....

Kelis - The Botanic Inn

Philip Taggart - ATL Content Assistant

Last Week The Botanic Inn, in Belfast, is the beerlarious student haunt for the Holyland’s massive. The club has more in common with cover bands and pints of stout than it does with New York starlets and milkshakes. On Thursday night I played artist liaison at a secret gig in The Bot that played host to NYC’s shaker of milk, Kelis. The most bizarre moment came when, stood 2 meters from her in a cold clinical backstage waiting area I wondered ‘how is she going to walk in those 5 foot stilettos, without falling flat on her face?’. Either that or Dave Grohl eating a packet of crisps in London.

Podge from Ham Sandwich

Amy McGarrigle - ATL Producer

Hardly first class star spotting, but when I just turned eighteen I went to my sisters 21st shindig in Dublin. There I meet a notorious partier and lovely nutter who talked to me about being in a band for about an hour before anybody else turned up. Famed for jumping out of boxes, it turned out to be Podge from Ham Sandwich, a band who are currently, and finally, properly making a mark on the music scene, about eight years later! Persistence pays off!
