What happened: In a time of the many Brit-schooled, rasping yet heartfelt female vocalists dominating the charts and reminiscing over the loss of Amy Winehouse, it’s interesting to hear a male voice with that raw, smoky edge. Maverick Sabre provides just that, leaping on as the band and backing vocalist warm up with a slick, jazzy overture. He can certainly sing and it’s a laid back performance brought together by Maverick’s competent charm and constant eye for crowd reactions. Unfortunately though, you’re left wondering why Plan B isn’t here instead such is the immediate comparison between vocal style, performance and songwriting. But while it might not be mesmerizing in its charms, his constant efforts to keep everyone interested save it from being dull.
