Oxegen 2011 - The Riptide Movement
Green Spheres, Friday, 3pm
Describe in a Tweet: Meat and two veg.
What happened: Most of the south's musical output these days seems to be 'intelligent' guitar rock or quirky folk. So it's strangely refreshing to watch a band play bog-standard festival rock n' roll that you could set your watch to. For a while, anyway.
Crazy In Love: 'Shake Shake' wraps up what they do best - a big sing song (you don't need to know the lyrics, you catch on soon enough) crashing into a big knees up blue-sy finale.
Why Don't You Love Me: There's not a huge amount of variation on display here. 'Keep Keeping On' is certainly solid and works well with an increasingly grateful crowd, but it's hard to tell these songs apart. And while on-stage between-song enthusiasm shouldn't be criticized, it looks daft when everyone talks at the same time.
Oxegen rating: 6/10
