Oxegen 2011 - The Naked & Famous

Post categories:

ATL|15:36 UK time, Saturday, 9 July 2011

2fm/Hotpress Stage, Friday, 9.10pm

Describe in a Tweet:
Trudging Kiwi Indie-Emotronica.

What happened: ATL arrive just in time for 'Punching in Dreams', which instantly has the fairly busy crowd dancing and singing along to the ever reliable punter pleasing 'woo woo' lyrics. It's what The Naked and Famous do well (a wall of joyous noise) and it's why the punters are here. But the set soon begins to plod along, with 'No Way' and 'Frayed' lacking the momentum despite the beats and explosive choruses. The crowd beings to thin out, but the heavy rain soon returns and with it, a batch of mildly amused shelter seekers.

Crazy In Love: The energy on stage is infectious, with the bands silhouetted figures throwing the shapes.

Why Don't You Love Me: The words trudging and plodding just keep returning to my mind, even though on paper, it's exactly what this crowd would want with it's booming choruses and pop hooks.

Oxegen rating: 6/10
