Since forming a 'proper' band, John D'Arcy has had quite the time of it, releasing his debut single on Terri Hooley's 'Good Vibrations' label and playing some high profile supports. But nothing else happens until the man himself puts himself through an online chat with our Rigsy. Queue discussions about the appeal of red shirts and the ultimate great bunch of lads.....

***************************

RIGSY SAYS: INTERVIEW! how are ya?

JOHN SAYS: hi rigsy. i'm awesome how does this work?

RIGSY SAYS: it's very complicated - i ask you questions, you hopefully answer them. the end

JOHN SAYS: i don't appreciate your sarcy tone

RIGSY SAYS: where are ya, what can you see around you?

JOHN SAYS: i'm in the computer lab at the sonic arts research centre at queen's in belfast. it's just behind the fine eatery the gilgamesh grill. I see nerds and iMacs

RIGSY SAYS: very nice. don't you have a gig today?

JOHN SAYS: i do! an instore at HMV Belfast

RIGSY SAYS: whats yr pre gig ritual

JOHN SAYS: before a gig i have a nap and a shower and put on a red shirt

RIGSY SAYS: do you always wear a red shirt when performing?

whats that about?

JOHN SAYS: red suits me

RIGSY SAYS: who decided that? it seems like an important decision

JOHN SAYS: my pale skin

RIGSY SAYS: haha, good man

so it's john d'arcy phase two, with the band and a proper release

JOHN SAYS: exactly.good vibrations

RIGSY SAYS: did you have to go 'right, lets do this properly' and put that all together

JOHN SAYS: produced by rocky [o'reilly - ex-Oppenhimer]

RIGSY SAYS: or did it happen dead naturally?

JOHN SAYS: well we wanted to work with rocky and terri [Hooley - Good Vibrations] wanted to bring out the record. It all came together nicely, in time the GBOL had just found our sound then too

RIGSY SAYS: what makes a GBOL?

JOHN SAYS: red tshirts and power chords

RIGSY SAYS: that the manifesto?

JOHN SAYS: pretty much

RIGSY SAYS: terri hooley then, in charge of good vibrations. total legend

JOHN SAYS: he is

RIGSY SAYS: how did that come about?

JOHN SAYS: i had given him a demo of one of my homemade EPs a while ago and he came back to me with a lot of nice things to say about it. Since then he has wanted to bring out a record by the band and the time just felt right!

RIGSY SAYS: is he gonna be bringing out a few more?

JOHN SAYS: yeah there'll be more next year then eventually an album

RIGSY SAYS: cool. you've some random supports coming up like jim kerr

JOHN SAYS: i do haha. casiotone.. they're both solo shows

RIGSY SAYS: if cds were in shops arranged by style rather than letters who would you end up in between?

JOHN SAYS: at the minute, I think people would be dropping us in between weezer and blink 182

RIGSY SAYS: and what about john darcy sans GBOL?

where would that live?

JOHN SAYS: I guess it would be closer to billy bragg. It's the same songs but there's a lot more noise when it's the three piece

RIGSY SAYS: final question. if you could teach any three lads in the world to play your songs, and bring them out on tour, what three lads would you go for?

JOHN SAYS: haha

RIGSY SAYS: thus: the ultimate great bunch of lads

JOHN SAYS: what about my current lads, did you kill them?

on drums i would have stone cold steve austin. and on bass i would have steve carrell

RIGSY SAYS: and one more lad?

JOHN SAYS: oh right

hmm

RIGSY SAYS: this better be good

RIGSY SAYS: i've grown a beard waiting

JOHN SAYS: i cant remember his name.

RIGSY SAYS: not that great a lad then surely

JOHN SAYS: the autotuned guy. aton?

RIGSY SAYS: oh right

JOHN SAYS: he would do good backing vocals

RIGSY SAYS: what a strange collection of human beings. i think you should stick with your current bunch!

JOHN SAYS: i think so too

RIGSY SAYS: RIGHT OUR TIME IS UP. good bye john d'arcy, regards to the great bunch of lads, and thank you for the music

JOHN SAYS: thanks rigsy

RIGSY SAYS: the songs your singing

JOHN SAYS: what're you doing with this?

RIGSY SAYS: thanks for all the joy you're bringing it's going on our blog. peas!!

JOHN SAYS: nanight
