A quick round up of what's new this week on BBC iPlayer, programmes that are about to become unavailable, plus some hidden gems you might have missed.

First Time Doctors

In the first episode we meet Dr Kevin Harkin who, after five years of study away in Liverpool, is happy to be back home and on the wards in Altnagelvin. Available until Saturday 30 November.

Africa's Great Civilisations

Henry Louis Gates Jr takes a new look at the history of Africa, from the birth of humankind to the dawn of the 20th century. Available until Sunday 1 December.

Silence

Film. In 1640, two young Jesuit priests travel from Portual to Japan on a mission to track down their former spiritual mentor, Father Ferreira, who is rumoured to have disappeared after renouncing Christinanity. The mission puts their own faith to the test. Available until Wednesday 4 December.
