BBC at Edinburgh Festivals 2016

An all-star line-up of top comedy, arts, writing and music – as well showcases for new fresh talent – will be at the heart of the BBC’s Edinburgh Festivals coverage across TV, radio and online.

Announcements and blogs

Drama

From the pen of the award-winning Debbie Horsfield, writer of Poldark and creator of Cutting It, comes contemporary new drama series Age Before Beauty on BBC One.

Entertainment

Three more professional dancers will be joining the new series of Strictly Come Dancing. The all-British dancers include World Champion Neil Jones and British and European Youth Latin and Ballroom Champions, AJ Pritchard and Chloe Hewitt, who will be the youngest ever professional dancers to appear on Strictly Come Dancing.

Meanwhile BBC announced Debatable a brand new daily quiz show for BBC Two Early-Peak, hosted by Patrick Kielty. Elsewhere, BBC’s Songs of Praise announced the winners of Rugby League Challenge Cup Fans Choir.

Digital

BBC iPlayer Performance Pack for April, May, June 2016 was published. In addition, in a first for any major video on-demand service in the world, the BBC has begun trialling subtitles for live channels on BBC iPlayer. To date, subtitles have only been available for on-demand programmes.

Music

The presenter line up for All Together Now: The Great Orchestra Challenge - a nationwide search for the orchestra that best captures the spirit of great British amateur music-making in the UK has been revealed.

Sport

The BBC and the London & Surrey Cycling Partnership have announced a three year extension of their contract up to and including the 2019 RideLondon festival of cycling.

Regional

BBC Radio Ulster’s Across The Linecelebrates 30 years with a special concert featuring bands the show has supported.

International

A new BBC World Service poll suggests a majority say doping scandals reduce their interest in the Olympics. Overall pride in how well their country performs in the Games has softened since before the London Games.

This week's blogs included a chance to Meet the reporters of BBC Three's Unsolved: The Boy Who Disappeared and the chance to find out what happened at last week's BBC Writersroom TV Drama Writers' festival 2016: Unheard Voices.
