Tomorrow's World
On Tuesday Tony Hall, Brian Cox, Dr Hannah Fry and Director of the Science Museum Group introduced the launch of a year long season of science and technology programming under the banner of Tomorrow’s World at the Science Museum in London.
Announcements and blogs
Drama
Controller of BBC Drama, Piers Wenger, has announced his vision for BBC Drama at an event co-hosted with the BBC’s Director-General Tony Hall. He also announced over 47-hours of new drama commissions.
On Wednesday we published the media pack for Babs, a drama telling the story of Barbara Windsor starring Dame Barbara Windsor, Samantha Spiro, Jaime Winstone, Nick Moran and Zoe Wanamaker. In addition, the media pack for screenwriter Mike Bartlett's adaptation of his own Olivier Award-winning play King Charles III which is coming to BBC Two was also published.
Sport
On Sunday BBC World Service announced the shortlist for the BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year 2017 award. Voting is now open and closes on Monday 15 May.
Comedy
All Round to Mrs Brown’s will return to BBC One for another six part series next year.
Factual
Springwatch will return to BBC Two this month, broadcasting live from a new location in rural Gloucestershire.
Entertainment
BBC One announced that Frank Skinner will host a documentary on his hero called Frank Skinner on Muhammad Ali.
In addition, a genre busting new show called Armchair Detectives has been commissioned for BBC One Daytime.
Radio
BBC Radio 3 announced a host of acclaimed international artists to perform on the BBC Radio 3 Charlie Gillett Stage at WOMAD festival this July.
Nations and regions
BBC Radio Ulster School Choir Of The Year results were announced on Sunday with St Lawrence’s Primary School, Fintona and Regent House Grammar School, Newtownards taking the top junior and senior choir titles respectively.
Meanwhile, BBC English Regions announced Jesus Piece, a new four part drama to go out on BBC iPlayer and BBC Local Radio stations. Two-time MOBO award winner and jazz, hip-hop musician Soweto Kinch will play the lead role of Touissant.
Elsewhere, BBC Radio Cymru has secured rights to broadcast the thrill of the Lions action live. Every game will be available on FM and online.
