Editor's Note: DJ B.Traits is off to Ibiza with Radio 1. In a guest blog for About the BBC she gives a taster of what she's most looking forward to.
This
weekend I'll be packing my swim suit, sun block, and sunglasses into my usual
DJ tool fitted travel bag. I'll be heading to the iconic Balearic Island that
is Ibiza, to join my fellow Radio 1 DJs for my first 'BBC Radio 1 in Ibiza'
experience. On Friday, I'll be at the beautiful Ushuaia Ibiza Beach Hotel
for Radio 1's massive free party, then on Saturday I'll be
partaking in BBC Radio 1’s specially extended four hour Essential Mix live from
Cream @ Privilege.
Since I arrived in the UK from Canada in 2010 I've only been to Ibiza twice. My
first trip to the island was a very rushed fly-in,
fly-out stop-over for a DJ gig at a club called Eden. It was amazing,
but I barely got to see the inside of my hotel room, never mind any sights of
the island.
My second trip, I decided to stay for 1 week, in a villa out in the countryside. I didn't really see any of Ibiza's iconic 'club district'. This surprised me and I was stunned by the two polar opposite vibes on the island. You can go out on the town, and immerse yourself in the nightlife that carries on until the wee hours of the morning. Or you can completely chill out, enjoy a blissful day under the sun on a quiet beach then indulge in an incredible meal and be in bed before midnight! You can really have the most ideal holiday in Ibiza, the best of both worlds.
For me, DJ’ing there is a massive milestone. I believe it’s a place where every DJ dreams of performing one day. I'm thrilled to get the opportunity to be a part of Radio 1 in Ibiza this year. I've heard amazing things about this weekend, even back in Canada. I remember listening to it live online when they would broadcast from Ibiza Rocks. It's known as one of the craziest times to be in Ibiza, with the free party being one of the biggest events of the summer!
This year sees one of the most outrageous and diverse line ups that I’ve ever seen. On Friday at Ushuaia, Pete Tong, Benga, Danny Howard and I will be joined by special guests Alesso, Nervo, Solomun, Chris Malinchak, George Fitzgerald, Rudimental and Fred V & Grafix. I've only seen Rudimental, and Fred V & Grafix perform live before (they absolutely smash it) so I'm very much looking forward to seeing Nervo, house king Solomun and one of my personal favourite producers of the moment, Chris Malinchak. His track 'So Good To Me' is one of my summer anthems!
It's probably an understatement to say I'm excited; for everyone that can't join us on the island; you'll be able to join in the party live on Radio 1.
