Lenny Henry At the Lyolwa Health Clinic for Comic Relief
BBC programmes and personalities were honoured at the 41st Broadcasting Press Guild Television and Radio Awards last week. Notably, Lenny Henry (pictured above for Comic Relief) was given the Harvey Lee Outstanding Contribution to Broadcasting.
Pete Bowker’s BBC Two drama Marvellous was chosen as Best Single Drama, and helped win Toby Jones the Best Actor award (for playing Neil Baldwin in Marvellous and Lance in Detectorists). Another BBC Two offering The Honourable Woman took home Best Drama Series, while W1A was named Best Entertainment/Comedy.
BBC One programmes also made waves, Baby P: The Untold Story was selected as Best Single Documentary. Sally Wainwright, writer of Last Tango In Halifax and Happy Valley took home the Writer’s Award and Harry and Jack Williams, writers of The Missing were given The Breakthrough Award.
BBC Radio was recognised too – Radio programme of the year was Germany: Memories of A Nation
(a BBC Radio Production in partnership with the British Museum for BBC Radio 4) and Woman’s Hour’s Jane Garvey was Radio Broadcaster of the Year.
