The Mandalorian S2: What the Must Watch reviewers think
Every week, the Must Watch podcasters review the biggest TV and streaming shows.
This week, Hayley Campbell and Scott Bryan share their thoughts on season two of the Mandalorian.
The Star Wars spin off on Disney+ follows a bounty hunter, played by Pedro Pascal, as he tries to reunite the mysterious creature known as 'the child' with its own kind.

Scott says: "It completely revolutionises the way TV is made"
"Absolutely it's a Must Watch. I love it. It’s like you’re watching a TV version of the film. Then, you slowly realise that this amazing amount of creativity is for the small screen. I love that sense of scale. We’re in an age of TV where so much money can be thrown around and it doesn’t work. This is throwing a lot of money at something and it does work.
"If you ever want to go down a real nerdy thing, look at the behind the scenes of how they made this show. They do it in front of a giant 360 video screen, but it’s not a green screen. The backgrounds you see are the backgrounds they see! The life like backdrop can be changed and tweaked and real time, so if an actor or director wants an object to be moved in the background they can do so. And instead of the actors going to a different location, the location comes to the actors – it completely revolutionises the way TV is made. It’s astonishing. I've linked out to the video HERE."

Hayley says "Top level Star Wars content"
"Yeah, I think it’s a Must Watch. This first episode of season two felt like a mini film in itself, as well as being a sort of Deadwood crossover because it's got Timothy Olyphant in what is basically another Western. It has that charming humour that Star Wars had in the beginning that’s hard to resist. If you’re not interested in what’s going on in the foreground, there's probably a character in a rubber mask doing something funny in the background, like brushing his huge bantha's teeth.
"As for the whole thing, it’s hard to judge if this is a Must Watch for everyone. It’s a really good show if you’re already invested in the Star Wars universe. It rewards being a pre-existing fan and is top level Star Wars content. If that's up your street you’ll like it a lot. The people who are making it - Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau - are solid fans who have managed to walk the very fine line of making new stuff while also pleasing grumpy old Star Wars fans who are incredibly picky (and with good reason: some recent Star Wars stuff has been traumatically terrible. And yes, I count Jar Jar Binks as "recent").
"The baby Yoda puppet, which is operated by two people on set, is especially great. He doesn’t do much but he completely steals the show. I love that they didn’t make it CGI. They almost did but Werner Herzog called them cowards."
