I Hate Suzie: What the Must Watch reviewers think

Every week, the Must Watch podcasters review the biggest TV and streaming shows.

This week, Hayley Campbell and Scott Bryan share their thoughts on I Hate Suzie.

The Sky Atlantic series co-created by Succession writer Lucy Prebble stars Billie Piper as an actor who has personal pictures leaked online following a hack.

Scott says: "When you see Billie Piper on screen you just think about the character she's playing"

"It’s absolutely a Must Watch. I think a lot of this comes down to Billie Piper. She and Lucy [Prebble] collaborated on an ITV2 drama more than a decade ago which was sensational, risky and provocative. They’ve gone on to do their own different projects and this is a very exciting reunion.

"We learn about the backstory of Billie Piper’s character Suzie, someone who’s been in the public eye for a number of years who became very popular for a singing contest (a bit like the X Factor), and then crossed over into drama. She’s immediately in this scenario because of a hacking incident, just when she’s being interviewed in her house. It’s made out like everything looks absolutely fine and she’s OK on the outside, when really on the inside everything is burning and traumatised.

"Billie is one of the finest actors - when you see her on screen you never think about the actor, just the character she’s playing. You completely believe who she is in this."

Hayley says: "The show is full of little bits of life that are true and feel real"

"Billie Piper’s character Suzie was famous as a teenager and then went onto star in a science-fiction show that has a huge fan base.

"There’s a bit at a convention where a guy stands up and asks why her character was in a certain place - when the rules of time and space stipulate that she should be elsewhere. Everyone in the room groans because there’s always someone in the room that asks those questions of actors.

"If anyone has been to an audience Q&A then you will agree with me that this scene is perfection. Don’t ask the actor, ask the screenwriter. They will always tell you about the scene that made it all make sense was cut because of budget, and now they can’t make sense of their own episode.

"The show is full of little bits of life that are true and feel real, I really liked it."
