Stargirl: What the Must Watch reviewers think
Every week, the Must Watch podcasters review the biggest TV and streaming shows.
This week, Hayley Campbell and Scott Bryan share their thoughts on Stargirl.
The Amazon Prime Video series is based on the DC Comics superhero Courtney Whitmore, a teenager living a normal life until her mum remarries...

Scott says: "I was astonished how quickly I got bored"
"Basically the first 20 minutes just consists of explosions and it’s the audio equivalent of putting your hand in the pan drawer and just smashing around the pans in there.
"There is every plot related to a superhero film squished together and mushed through a mincer. It genuinely provides nothing new. When I saw it, I thought I was watching another show I had already seen. I felt like I’d mistakenly watched a show from when I was about 12 or 13.
"I know that superhero films have to follow the convention of them being a normal everyday person finding out they have a superpower – but this is so lacking in any form of originality or interest. I was astonished at how quickly I got bored of this."

Hayley says: "It is one long superhero cliché"
"It’s written by Geoff Johns, who also created the character and the comics, so this is another one of those shows where I can’t really fault it for doing exactly what it set out to do. It’s been made by the people who would do it justice, but I think I was just never going to like it. It is probably for someone, but that someone is not me.
"For some reason, people do love the superhero story being told over and over again. It's why every Batman movie has to show his parents being killed in the alleyway again and again. We’ve all seen that bit. Are you telling me that Bruce Wayne has some childhood trauma that made him put on a bat suit? Shocking news!
"So the fact is that Stargirl is one long superhero cliché. If that doesn’t put you off then maybe give it a go, but I am not going to touch it with a stick."
