Selling Sunset: What the Must Watch reviewers think

This week, Hayley Campbell and Scott Bryan share their thoughts on Selling Sunset season three.
The reality show focuses on the glamorous lives of real-estate agents working at the Oppenheim Group in Los Angeles.

Scott says: "It ticks that big nonsense box that we all need at the moment"
"There are many layers to it. The entire show consists of people gossiping to someone about how awful someone is, but then that awful person finding out about said gossip. Then there’s this juxtaposition where most of the time you see these ugly houses and you go ‘what an ugly chandelier’ and then you then hear the characters being like ‘wow what a beautiful chandelier, that’s amazing’.
"There’s a scene in episode six too where Christine decides to make a cup of tea by emptying a bottle of water into a mug, followed by dipping a tea bag into it and then shoving it in the microwave. An outrage.
"It has the same appeal as Love Island - where you go in thinking it’s going to be really one-dimensional and not really that interesting but then you kind of get into the complexity and their relationships.
"It is a world beyond itself where interviews that the characters do feed back into the show [for example with US Weekly, or people] and then they talk about that interview and it’s all real.
"It’s not for me but I do think it’s definitely ticking that big nonsense box that we all need at the moment, but it is not that original. It’s a type of show that has been on TV for years."

Hayley says: "I can't help myself, I really like this show"
"If you’ve looked at Twitter recently this show is all anyone is talking about — but why? It’s about estate agents in Los Angeles. It sounds terrible! Imagine pitching that show! But the world is now obsessed with these women and their very, very short bosses who run The Oppenheim Group, which sells gigantic mansions to rich people who have no taste, or have very specific or absurd tastes simply because they can afford to. It’s a strange show.
"I will admit that when this turned up on the list of things to watch I was not that buzzed about it because I loathe reality TV shows. Specifically, the ones that have a lot of plastic surgery, a lot of vocal fry, a lot of American women saying ‘like’ a lot. This one has all of those ingredients, all of the things I hate, and yet I can’t help myself, I really like this show.
"What I think is essential for enjoying it is having a pal who is also watching Selling Sunset so you can send each other screenshots of the most absurd moments.
"You'll find yourself becoming bitchier than normal and every time a new season starts you’ll be discussing who's had what plastic surgery done, and you’ll also start imagining the scenarios and stories of what happened off camera.
"For example: what did the cast collectively do to the makeup artist because whoever’s doing season three is clearly a person with a grudge? So this is, ridiculously, a Must Watch. It’s horrible. I can find nothing good to say about it and yet I can’t stop watching it."
