Must Watch reviews The Elon Musk Show

Every week, the Must Watch podcasters review the biggest TV and streaming shows.

This week, Hayley Campbell and Scott Bryan review The Elon Musk Show.

BBC Two hosts conversations with the family, friends and enemies of Elon Musk, as they delve into the life of the world's richest man.

Hayley says "I wanted more insight and more analysis of who he is and what he supports"

It's not for me. It's a pretty basic documentary, and an uninteresting one if you’re not all that interested in Elon Musk to begin with. I can’t just sit and watch multiple people call him a genius when I know the kind of stuff he says on Twitter, which negates that entirely. To have that said and then not comment on it was a little too fawning. I wanted more insight and more analysis of who he is and what he supports if I’m going to waste my time thinking about Elon Musk. But even his ex-wives were nice about him.

I think the best documentaries convince you that the subject, whatever it is, is interesting and multilayered even if you don't agree with the person. This did nothing to convince me that Elon Musk is anything other than the embarrassing guy on Twitter.

Scott says "the documentary raises necessary questions about what are the implications about having so much control, power and influence under just one person"

I think what I like about this documentary is it goes right back to the very beginning to explain how Elon Musk managed to acquire a wealth of $200 billion, which makes him not only the wealthiest man in the world currently, but he’s also the richest man who has ever lived.

I think the documentary also looks at the major controversies he's faced and his difficult working style. There’s an anecdote about how he would go around the office at 9pm and if there were people who weren’t there, because they had gone home, he would be incredibly angry. He freezes out people who don’t agree with him, he does not like negativity in any form. Over the course of his career he has created detractors and enemies.

I think the documentary also raises necessary questions about what are the implications about having so much control, power and influence under just one person, which is a necessary question to ask as he tries to take over Twitter.

The Elon Musk Show is available now on BBC Two.

Must Watch is released as a podcast every Monday evening from BBC Sounds and all other good podcast providers.

This week, the team also review Maxine on Channel 5 and BBC One's The Industry Season 2.
