Get Even: What the Must Watch reviewers think

Every week, the Must Watch presenters review the biggest TV and streaming shows alongside 5 Live presenter Nihal Arthanayake.

This week, Hayley Campbell and Scott Bryan share their thoughts on Get Even, a mystery drama which follows four teenage girls at an elite private school. On the surface the girls appear to have nothing in common except for one passion which unites them - to expose injustice.

It's available now on BBC iPlayer.

Scott says: "The huge cast is confusing for everyone"

“It’s set at a school that's full of bullying and pressure. I think it's familiar setup to many of us – there's a lot of focus at this school on getting the greatest results, meaning that pupil’s mental wellbeing is not so much of a consideration.

"But the problem with this show is the ensemble cast: it is huge. It's about 25 including recurring characters and honestly, I think it’s confusing for everyone.

"I know that in other shows you might get that number of characters, but here you see different loves, relationships and fights and squabbles all going on at the same time, distracting you from the heart of the piece, which I don’t think really gets going until at least episode three.

"I am really happy that the BBC is spending and focusing on teen dramas specifically after ignoring them for so long, but sadly this is not a Must Watch for me."

Hayley says: "It's awkward and slow moving... I just wanted it to end"

"The first episode introduces us to the bullying revenge super-group who essentially get vengeance by public shaming and then it doesn't mention them again for a whole half hour... then they come in at the very end of the first episode.

"In that time where they're not there it becomes a totally average and predictable high school drama with dozens of characters and crushes and all sorts of things.

"It’s awkward and slow moving and I thought it was very much nothing special. It deals with cringe teenage problems but it’s written in a way that didn't make me care.

"I just wanted it to end - not a Must Watch for me."
