Must Watch reviews Moon Knight

Every week, the Must Watch podcasters review the biggest TV and streaming shows.

This week, Hayley Campbell and Scott Bryan review Marvel’s Moon Knight on Disney +.

Oscar Isaac stars as two characters investigating the mysteries of Egyptian gods from inside the same body.

Hayley says: “Oscar Isaac is so watchable”

‘’I enjoyed this partly because Oscar Isaac is so watchable, but I also like the wrestling with mental health that this story has. It’s not just guys fighting other guys, he’s literally fighting invisible things. And when they do have actual battles, the fights don’t last that very long and they're kind of funny rather than serious superhero nonsense.

“Part of me wishes they had made the show in a non-specific English city instead of London though. They have made an attempt to make it look like London but in others ways they’ve fudged it and you just sit there thinking ‘but the British Museum doesn’t open on to Trafalgar Square’ and ‘Tottenham Court Square tube station doesn’t have a garden in front of it!’ Of course it was all filmed in Hungary so none of it is in London at all, but when you couple that with the 1970s cockney accent — which is supposed to be phony anyway and makes more sense as the show progresses — it makes it a more surreal watch than the actual surreal elements of the show.”

Scott says: “Utterly riveting and great fun”

“Following on from what Hayley says - they even mock up Tottenham Court Road station in a location that it isn’t. Why name it after a real station if it isn't at the right location? There are so many scenes that were clearly filmed not in London which make it jarring. It’s like they had a meeting and said ‘we need to make this look British, let’s put a red bus in, throw in a red bus and everything will be fine!’ So I was immediately going to write this off as I couldn't get into it. But then it goes into this delightful little thriller where you only see what Oscar sees. The bit where he wakes up and isn’t sure what is going on, you’re following that journey and it is utterly riveting and great fun. It really does work for me."

Moon Knight is available now on Disney +.
