Our Must Watch reviewers this week are Scott Bryan, TV Editor at Buzzfeed, and Hayley Campbell, journalist, reviewer and host of the BBC pop culture Podcast “Unpopped”.
What did you think of The Romanoffs? Leave your comments below.
Scott says: "The show doesn't know what it is itself."
"Amazon now throw money at things hoping something will stick. I'm not saying this is a winning strategy - but it can work.
"This show cost $50 million. They got Matthew Weiner who did Mad Men, and gave him complete control. They are films, this is not a TV show.
"The whole marketing around this show suggests its like Black Mirror - but all of these stories stand alone. These stories have nothing to do with each other.
"They're dropping one each week, because who would watch eight episodes of 90 minutes in one go, I have no idea.
"The weird thing about it is that it's surprisingly watchable. But the show doesn't know what it is itself.
"There are some fleeting moments of interest. In the first episode there's a deeply racist old woman; it has a housekeeper who is a Muslim woman - and the racist woman is really, really awful throughout. But they basically form a friendship - though it's a bit clunky."
Warning: Third-party content may contain adverts.
Hayley says: "I did not like this at all."
"Sometimes you resent having to watch something - and I did not like this at all.
"It's eight stories about descendants of the Russian royal family and it's all set now.
"You are essentially watching entitled, awful people believing they're better because of a long-dead empire for an hour and a half, because they're excessively long."
