Informer: What the reviewers think

BBC/Neal Street Productions

Afternoon Edition's TV reviewers this week are Scott Bryan, TV Editor at Buzzfeed and Anna Leszkiewicz, deputy culture editor at the New Statesman. They are sharing their thoughts on the new BBC One thriller Informer, which stars Paddy Considine (plays DS Gabe Waters) and Nabhaan Rizwan (plays Raza Shar).

What did you think? Leave your reviews below...

Scott says: "You have to get through the first hour to enjoy the second"

"This whole drama is about a world I never knew existed. I didn't know how this world operates between the police and people giving them information.

"I think they needed to take time to explain the relationship, to explain the context, but I think it was just too long explaining things.

"It was about the fiftieth minute when Raza and Gabe were in the car together - get to it sooner!

"However, I have seen episode two, and that was like bang, straight off with that dynamic between police and informer, which is the real interest for me.

"The second episode goes straight in, so you have to kind of get through the first hour to enjoy the second."

Anna says: "I wanted a little bit more momentum"

"It's got a really great cold open in the first episode which is very suspenseful - akin to Bodyguard.

"For me the first episode is a bit slow, and you're given little winks that these different A plots and B plots are all going to be interrelated but you're not given much more of that.

"There's a sense of 'why do I care about this man's family?' I wanted a little bit more momentum in that first episode.

"We're getting to know Raza and his family, and his back story and the back story of the other characters involved.

"For me it didn't pull me through to that next episode, I wasn't super compelled to keep watching, apart from the fact that this informer plot isn't something I've seen in detail before.

"So I will keep watching, but not because I was super-gripped by that first episode.

"Not yet a must watch, but probably will become one."
