Hayley says: "It's lazy and uninteresting"

Hayley: “It’s a never watch. It literally has no redeeming features. It’s not even so bad that it’s fun to watch. It’s lazy and uninteresting.

"I unironically love Sex and the City even though I know it’s bad. I can see as reviewer that Sex and the City is objectively not a good show, but I can't help it. Emily in Paris isn't that. This isn’t even as absurd as that episode where Carrie Bradshaw went to Paris and insisted on wearing clothes she thought made her look French.

"Twitter steers us well on some things. The hype around Tiger King was huge and when you watched it the story was just as mad as the internet led us to believe. Don’t listen to Twitter on this one. I don’t think it deserves the attention it’s getting. Any other year besides 2020, it would have sunk without a trace.”

Scott says: "The TV equivalent of rubbernecking"

Scott: “I don’t think there’s anyone who likes this show. You start watching this and go ‘wow this is awful.’ It’s impression of Paris is the Ratatouille version of Paris. It’s essentially based on depictions of Paris from existing American films.

“It’s like they kept googling every cliché for the first three episodes, then ran out so they just made up some! For example there’s one bit where the characters says to Emily: ‘oh no one arrives in France for work until 1030’ - and of course, that’s not a thing!

“It’s a Must Watch but not in any way of it being good. There’s sort of this addictive level of awfulness that keeps you watching - it’s like the TV equivalent of rubbernecking.”

Emily in Paris is available now on Netflix.

Must Watch is released as a podcast every Monday evening from BBC Sounds, or through your podcast app.
