The A-Z of Wittertainment
It's now been ten years since Simon Mayo and Mark Kermode first started doing film reviews on 5 live. It's evolved from a slot on Simon's daily afternoon show to the two-hour, Friday-afternoon Humvee that's also one of the biggest podcasts around.
To mark their decade in power, today's show is live from the doctor's favourite cinema - the Phoenix, in Finchley in North London.
They've also put together an A-Z of Wittertainment, in four parts. Here's the first one:

Like Welcome2theMachine I have no interest in this programme, although it does keep Richard Bacon off air on a Friday which means it can't be all bad.
Congratulations on your ten years.

(a) cheaper production (which makes you wonder why the BBC cant do it as cheaply)
(b) exclusive talent signed to the production house (not applicable in this case)
(c) expertise (you'd be hard pressed to find more expertise than at the BBC I'd imagine)
(d) exploitation (greater opportunities to drive revenue by on-selling or commercialization through additional non-core channels)
You do wonder also if the talent and rights are surrendered to a third-party what IP is retained by the BBC and ring fencing is done so competitors can't lift the format or the talent.
I think this would be a very worthy post for Jonathan Wall to write.

Read the film crits in newspapers to get an overview or go and see films yourself, after all the population can't be completely wrong and Kermode right, when films he loathes are number one box office in this country time after time.
