Champions League Final: 5 live coverage

Not more 'my team is....' stuff.

Nice blog Hasit, but i think you have missed a trick in not going into a bit more depth on how 5live as a whole are preparing for this event;



Which reporters will you send there for the build up?

Are there going to be any special guests?

Who is going to be part of the commentary team?

Where in the stadium is 5lives commentary position going to be?

Are you going to suprise us, and broadcast an exclusie interview with Sir Alex Fergusen?



These are the type of things that would have made your blog piece even more intresting.



I have said it before but Paul Armstrong is the King of bloggers, his blogs are missed, whenever BBC TV would broadcast a big live football match, he would publish a blog and go into great depth in terms of the background stuff, sadly Hasit your blog is good but lightweight on how 5live are approaching the game.

I would like to ask where the blog is about the Premiership Final between Saracens and Leicester? This is a repeat of last year's final and is the highlight of the Premiership season, yet you have no blog about it on this blog site despite it being covered on 5 Live.

Can we have a blog about the very important play-off finals this weekend Hasit ? Only it very much looks to me as though 5live is yet again becoming rather obsessive about the usual set of football teams and needs to re-focus its efforts to make teams from other divisons more inclusive in 5lives coverage.Fair coverage to all should be 5lives goal.

I hope Robbie Savage won't be getting anywhere near the 5Live coverage?



Will there be a 606 following the game? This was supposed to be a post about 5Live's coverage but sadly half of it seems to have been taken up by self-indulgent Liverpool mentions and wedding news.



Couldn't you have actually told us about the coverage?

Hasit,i concur with Ryan, i was pretty generous in my earlier post because i thought the following champions league posts would give details on 5lives coverage but they are just pieces by fans which have nothing to do with 5lives coverage.



Why give this blog the title "Champions League Final: 5 live coverage" when the title has got nothing to do with the content?



Come on Hasit you are missing chance after chance to blog about actual behind the scenes stuff at 5live, instead preferring to post fans pieces, which are more suited to 606 in my opinion.

What on earth has Liverpool to do with the champions league final between two teams that don't include Liverpool.

Some years ago now Hasit ( before the introduction of live tv matches ) when the BBC was commentating on football matches on radio they used to print a grid of the pitch in the Radio Times to which commentators would refer too and the listeners would know whereabouts the ball was in play.Do you think it would be a good idea to bring that back Hasit ? It would be a very useful tool and you could put a little red cross where the BBC commentators are sitting.It all helps build up a composite picture and a more involved enjoyment of the game.I think it could turn radio football commentaries into a whole new and updated perspective.

So you are sending people to Manchester on Sunday morning to interview people when their team has lost? That's going to be a cheery programme.

Just reading this blog and found a suggestion about a grid being printed in the Radio Times of the football pitch to help identify where the ball/play is and which would be referred to by 5live commentators.I have to say that seems a splendid idea and can't imagine why Hasit has dismissed this out of hand.If the poor commentators have to change their style to adapt and accommodate this then why not ? They are well paid enough after all.I think it is a great idea and well worth a try.

Ginger with respect the grid idea is like something out of the dark ages, whenever i listen to the footy on the Radio, the commentators are so brillant at what they do they instantly paint a picture for me, to suggest the likes of John Murray, Alan Green and Mike Ingham are poor Commentators is just absurd.



This idea might suit the older listeners, but the vast majority of the younger listeners would i guess find this idea embrassing, and seeing as most of the younger listeners will be using Social Media, the idea of referring to a grid will not be very appealing.



So sorry but in this day and age, this idea will not take of at all.

I must say that sounds very ageist to me Fedster and something of the attitude in which the BBC are trying to get away from.Some of us older listeners are not all obsessed with Social Media or are locked into it.It is a quite excellent idea and one which should be given more thought.I don't find the 5live commentators ' brilliant ' as you call them at all with their shouting and ranting and raving every other minute.We need more commentators like Ron Jones or the late Kenneth Wolstenholme.

Ginger so what it comes down to is this;



5live has a by a vast margin, younger listeners as a majority, so what you are proposing is 5live to cater for a tiny percentage of older listeners by providing a grid system, this is not a good use of resources and will actually annoy the majority of listeners who wil not be using the grid system.

And where are your figures at which you talk with such authority on ?I have never heard before this suggestion by you or anyone at 5live that this radio station is aimed at younger listeners or has only a tiny percentage of older ones.Are you making this up ? Far from annoying anyone it would be of great benefit to older listeners.I think it is a marvellous idea and well worth trying out.Printing a grid in the Radio Times would cost absolutely nothing in the 5live budget.Your ageist comments do you no favours.I hear many older listeners/callers phoning into 5live so it cannot be that tiny a percentage who listen.

Could we please have a blog about Michael Owen staying at Manchester United?



It's been at least two days since we had a blog entry about something largely irrelevant no-one wants to discuss and to do with the North West.

Or one comparing what we think of the Derby v. the Aintree Grand National.



Or more seriously, the role of regional journalists and how they feel about being thrust in to the limelight, for example the Derrick Bird tragedies or the Raoul Moat tragedy. I know they have outlined in a short blog what they have done, but it would be interesting to know more about how they cope when something becomes a national story.
