When the World Cup's on, everyone has an opinion. As well as our coverage and analysis from South Africa, part of 5 live's job is to capture the mood of the nation back home.

It's about getting people's views and voices on air. So in addition to World Cup 606 and the World Cup Breakfast phone-in, we're holding a 5 live Sport Fans Forum in Manchester.

It's on Thursday the 1st of July, the day before the Quarter Finals start -- so the mood will be dependant on whether England are still in the tournament at that stage.

The discussion will be hosted by Mark Clemmit, with special guests Danny Mills, Peter Reid and John Aldridge. They've all played in World Cup finals: Danny and Peter for England, and John for the Republic of Ireland. And they'll be primed to answer your questions.

It's at the Castlefield Rooms in Manchester at 8pm. If you want to come along and be part of the audience, you need to email [email protected] with your full name, your address and a contact phone number. Tell us how many tickets you would like (up to a maximum of 4 per request) and write World Cup Fans Forum in the subject bar. Tickets are free, but it's first come, first served, so you'll need to be quick.

Ever heard of the South West, East Anglia, the North East, the Midlands, the South East?

I can understand missing out the South East because it contains London, the region 5 Live seem to loathe because the highest population area of the UK is contained therein, but do you have to punish every other region of England by ignoring them for a live broadcast on the World Cup?

When is the last time (other then the election) when 5Live did _anything_ from the South West?

    I've said this before.

You are dead right Carrie. Poor.

  • Comment number 3.

The commentary was just fine but the nonsense that went on around it? Has the BBC lost the plot in that everything Five Live does has to involve some poorly briefed, second tier presenter screaming at the great unwashed for their opinion? Sovcial clubs, cornflake factories ... just trying too hard folks.

Everything, but everything involves listener content. It is time filling rubbish and given the resources they have it is time someone (the controller perhaps) made themselves accountable. Just not good enough folks.

Nicky Campbell is in some sort of South Africa obsessed capsule. Does he have a contract with their tourist board? I think CBeeB's is next for him.

Vic ploughs away trying to keep it all going but really, it's all getting so predictable. And I write this after the Germany result. I just can't imahgine jhow bad the weekend will be.

Has anyone forgotten it's summer ... tennis, cricket anyone? All fondly dismissed to the outer courts.

How did Mayo and Kermode trun from a fascinating movie programme into a facile, self-congratulatory, smug and unlistenable-to shouting-fest? Dear oh dear, how boring it is. And how good it once was...

  • Comment number 5.

Re#4 Kermode is only good when he is told to be brief, focus and not rant...the show is too long in its new form.
