How do you count in 25s?

There are two 25s in 50 and there are four 25s in 100.

If you remember this, it helps you count in steps of 25.

Look at this number line.

Patterns of counting in 25s

Counting in larger steps is like counting in small steps, you need to look for patterns in the numbers.

Counting in small steps of 5 has a great pattern.

Number line from 0 to 30. There are 6 jumps from 0 to 30 counting on in 5s. 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30.

Counting in larger steps of 25 also has a pattern.

Number line from 0 to 150. There are 6 jumps from 0 to 150 counting on in 25s. 0, 25, 50, 75, 100,125 and 150.

Multiples of 25 end in:

25, 50, 75 or  00

Counting up in 25s always follows that order.

Missing numbers

You can also use the patterns for counting in 25s to help find missing numbers in a sequence.

Have a look at this number sequence. How could you work out the missing numbers?

Look at the tens and ones digits in each number.
