Forces in the playground
Description
Children identify different examples push and pull forces in an adventure playground. The term ‘force’ is used when each example of a force is identified. Examples include pushing a gate and a pram, pulling a toy dog and pulling open a gate.
Classroom Ideas
Students could be given a sheet with two column headings: ‘pulling forces’ and ‘pushing forces’ and go on to identify examples of these forces in action in their classroom. Examples may include a door being pushed or pulled, a pushing force when a pen lid is applied to a pen, or a pushing force when a board is cleaned with a board wiper. This would lead nicely into the students taking their own digital footage of examples of these forces around them, both still and moving, and then reviewing these as a class.
