Description

The First Past the Post voting system is used for elections to the House of Commons.

Classroom Ideas

This could be used to introduce the First Past The Post voting system. To further illustrate voting systems, the teacher could lead ‘X Factor’ simulations on bands/pop stars. ‘Most popular’ votes could be counted using the First Past The Post system and again with Proportional Representation to compare and contrast the results.
