Description
The history of the campaign for bilingual road signs - one of the priorities of the Welsh Language Society (Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg) from the 1960s onwards. The campaign was seen as a success, as bilingual signs are now seen throughout Wales.

Classroom Ideas
Use this clip when studying aspects of Wales and its culture. It could be used to trigger a discussion about bilingualism in Wales and as an opportunity for students to express a personal opinion about the principles and actions of the protestors who took part in the road signs campaign. Learners could also be asked to express personal opinions by writing a formal letter or an article.
