Description

The story of the protest by the Beasley family in Llangennech who refused to pay English-only local rates demands from 1952 onwards. After an eight-year battle against Llanelli Town Council, Trefor and Eileen Beasley got their reward. A bilingual rate demand arrived in 1960.

This is a clip that can be used to introduce aspects of Welsh culture. It offers the opportunity to discuss the importance of the status of the Welsh language. Another task that could be set after watching the clip is to research the legal status of Welsh. The clip could be a starting point for a group discussion about its importance and status.
