German-speaking composers, such as Beethoven, Händel, Mozart, Schumann and Bach are world famous for the music they wrote in the classical era.

It was once thought that listening to Mozart made people smarter, as participants in a study performed better on IQ tests after listening to his music. Some people even think that playing Mozart to babies will make them more intelligent.

Today, both klassische Musik and Pop- und Rockmusik play an important role in everyday life in Austria, Germany and Switzerland and live music can be heard performed in even the smallest town and village.

The largest music festival in Germany is called 'Rock im Park' or 'Rock am Ring'. Two line-ups are spread over two different venues, similar to festivals in the UK like the Reading festival, T in the Park or Oxygen.
