Role-play – At the cinema

Practise taking part in a conversation at the cinema. Read the instructions and prepare what you will say.

Scenario

You need to buy two tickets for the 17:30 screening. Respond to the questions the cinema employee asks and address them as vous.

The bullet points give an idea of what might be asked, so use these to prepare. Where there is an exclamation mark (!) a surprise question will be asked. Where there is a question mark (?), you will need to ask a question yourself.

Cinema employee - Bonjour, mademoiselle.

Customer - Bonjour, monsieur. Je voudrais deux billets, s’il vous plait.

Cinema employee - Bien sûr. À quelle heure ?

Customer - À 17h30.

Cinema employee - Vous aimez les films d’horreur ?

Customer - Oui, j’adore ce genre de films parce que c’est divertissant.

Cinema employee - Vous payez en espèces ou par carte bancaire ?

Customer - En espèces.

Cinema employee - Ah, d’accord.

Customer - Ça fait combien ?

Cinema employee - douze euros cinquante s’il vous plait.

Translation:

Cinema employee - Hello.

Customer - Hello. I would like two tickets please.

Cinema employee - Of course. At what time?

Customer - At 17:30.

Cinema employee - Do you like horror films?

Customer - Yes, I love horror films because they are entertaining.

Cinema employee - Are you paying with cash or debit card?
