The purpose of a lob shot is for the ball to go over the top of another ball.

A shot is deemed to be successful if:

• it passes over a player's ball or opponent's ball that is blocking either the jack or a tactical position

A successful shot will need to:

• have a decent height when thrown to allow the ball to loop over the ball that is causing a barrier
• be weighted accurately so that it reaches the jack or the target ball
