Asking and responding to questions

Asking questions and interacting with one another is a key part of any discussion.

Question

Do you remember what the following questions are in Welsh?

  • Who?
  • What?
  • Where?
  • When?
  • How?
  • Why?
  • Which?

During the discussion, you may wish to ask an individual in the group a question or you may decide to address the group as a whole.

Beth wyt ti’n feddwl? – What do you think? (addressing one person)

Beth ydych chi’n feddwl? – What do you think? (addressing more than one person)

Here are some useful questions you could ask during the discussion:

Why not practise pronouncing these questions? Then, after you have practised, play the audio file to check your pronunciation.

You could also vary the tenses of the questions, of course.

Question

How would you ask the following questions:

  • Would you (sing.) like to…?
  • Would you (pl.) like to…?
  • Will you (sing.) be…?
  • Will you (pl.) be…?
  • What did you (sing.) think?
  • What did you (pl.) think?

Being able to respond appropriately to questions is just as important as asking them.

Match the questions with the appropriate yes answers:
