Referring to research

During the discussion, you should refer to the research you have undertaken. This will help to support the points you wish to develop. To do this, you’ll need to use the past tense.

Look at Writing about the past and Various tenses for more information on the past tense.

Here are some key expressions you could use:

  • Darllenais i erthyglau am... – I read articles about...
  • Chwiliais i am wybodaeth ar y we am... – I searched for information on the internet about...
  • Gwyliais i raglen ddogfen am... – I watched a documentary about...
  • Siaradais i â… – I spoke to…
  • Es i i ymweld â… a gofynnais i am… – I went to visit… and I asked about…

Choose the expressions that are most relevant to you.

You should also refer to your findings, eg:

  • Yn ôl y wefan, mae... – According to the website, there are...
  • Yn ôl yr erthygl, roedd... – According to the article, there was/were...
  • Yn ôl yr ystadegau,… – According to the statistics,...
  • Yn ôl Hannah,... – According to Hannah,...
  • Mae’r wefan yn dweud bod... – The website says that...
  • Mae’r erthygl yn dweud bod... – The article says that...
