Arranging a party or a similar event – WJECArranging a trip to Glastonbury

Imagine that some friends ask you the following question:

Hoffet ti ddod i Glastonbury gyda ni?

How would you reply?

You might decide to answer using Hoffwn. However, you are bound to have many questions about the trip such as the cost, how to get a ticket and travelling arrangements.

You may also have other questions, eg:

• Pa fath o ddillad? - What kind of clothes?
• Ble fyddwn ni’n cysgu? - Where will we be sleeping?
• Pwy fyddwn ni’n gweld yn perfformio? - Who will we see performing?
• Beth arall fyddwn ni’n wneud yno? - What else will we do there?

Note the future tense forms in this piece:

• Ble fyddwn ni’n cysgu?
• Pwy fyddwn ni’n gweld yn perfformio?
• Beth arall fyddwn ni’n wneud yno?

Exercise

Look on the internet to see what’s happening at the next Glastonbury festival and then answer the above questions. As you are answering as a member of a group, you could use Byddwn ni’n ______, eg:

Byddwn ni’n gwrando ar ______.

Byddwn ni’n dawnsio yn y ______.

You could also ask each other what other members of the group want to do when they get to Glastonbury:

Beth wyt ti eisiau gwneud yn Glastonbury?

Beth ydych chi eisiau gwneud yn Glastonbury?

Dw i eisiau ______ achos ______.

Beth hoffet ti wneud yn Glastonbury?

Beth hoffech chi wneud yn Glastonbury?

Hoffwn i ______ achos ______.

If other members of the group have been to Glastonbury before, you could ask them what they did, who they saw etc. Do you remember how to form the past tense? Look at Various tenses for more information.

It’s always a good idea to express an opinion if possible. Therefore, if you arrange an event as a group, make opportunities to say what you think of something or why you like or dislike something. You can do this using the present, past or the future tense.
