Diwali is known as the festival of lights and is celebrated by Hindus around the world.

Read the following section of Sarita's presentation to a group of primary school children about how she celebrates Diwali.

Helo. Fy enw i ydy Sarita a dw i’n 22 oed. Rydyn ni’n Diwali bob blwyddyn – ym mis Hydref neu ym mis Tachwedd.

Mae Diwali yn am bum . Yn ystod y pum diwrnod, rydyn ni’n mynd i’r i ac rydyn ni’n paratoi melysion i’n ffrindiau. Dw i’n cael dillad newydd – sari gyda lliwiau llachar. Rydyn ni’n adeiladau gyda goleuadau ac rydyn ni’n cael hefyd. Mae golau’n iawn Diwali – mae hi'n wŷl liwgar iawn.

Exercise

Based on the above information, decide whether the sentences below are cywir (correct) or anghywir (incorrect).

  1. Mae pobl yn dathlu Diwali ym mis Hydref neu ym mis Tachwedd.
  2. Gŵyl ydy Diwali.
  3. Mae’r ŵyl yn parhau am saith diwrnod.
  4. Mae golau’n bwysig adeg Diwali.

Using the information contained in this section, and any other information you may have about Diwali, plan a Diwali celebration. You could follow the same steps as usual and discuss:

  • what kind of event
  • the venue
  • the time – the date and actual time
  • what exactly will happen
  • who will do what
  • the price of the tickets (if appropriate)
  • how you will let people know about the event
