Monitoring and recording performance

Every time I lost a match, I would go away and think about why I lost that match... Whether that was through performance analysis or lots of practice, I would work out the best way to make sure I didn’t repeat my mistakes.

Why monitor and record?

Why monitor and record - compare improvement to original, check intensity, reset targets, aid motivation, provide feedback, judge if training works, identify strengths
  • to provide data on your improvements and comparison to original data
  • to allow you to judge if a training programme is working and help make changes
  • to provide valuable feedback
  • to improve motivation
  • to check intensity of training
  • to allow targets to be reset or new targets to be made if they have been met
  • to identify new strengths and weaknesses / future development needs

The monitoring method makes sure that steps from one session to the next are gradual and safe. It also serves as a motivational tool as progress made is clear to see. This encourages a performer to maintain high effort levels.
